Move a store to a different account
What to do when Landara says your store is already connected to a different workspace, what we can move, and how to request it.
Updated 30 August 2026
If you try to connect a Shopify store and Landara tells you it is already connected to a different Landara workspace, this page explains why and what to do next.
A store can only ever be connected to one Landara workspace at a time. That is deliberate: your cost layers, your COGS journals and your valuation all belong to a single set of books, and a store feeding two of them would give you two different answers for the same month.
First, check whether that workspace is yours
Most of the time it is, and you can fix this yourself in a minute.
The usual cause is two sign-ups with different email addresses. You might have created an account on landara.co with your own address, then installed Landara from the Shopify App Store, where your store's contact email is a different address (something like orders@ or info@). Landara created a workspace for that address, and your store is sitting in it.
-
Think about which email addresses you might have used, including the contact email on your Shopify store.
-
Sign out of Landara and sign in with the other address.
-
If your store is there, you are done. Carry on in that workspace, and use the other one for nothing.
Signing in with a different email address does not create a second store connection. Your store stays exactly where it is.
If the workspace is not yours
Then somebody else connected your store to their Landara account: a previous owner of the business, an agency you worked with, or a member of staff who has since left.
We can help, but we will check first. Email support@landara.co and tell us:
- your store URL, for example
your-store.myshopify.com - the email address of the Landara account you want the store connected to
- what happened, in a sentence or two (bought the business, parted ways with an agency, staff member left, and so on)
We will come back to you, and in most cases we will need to contact the other account holder before anything changes.
What we can move, and what we never move
This is the part worth reading carefully, because it surprises people.
We can move the store connection. That is a single link between your store and a workspace.
We never move cost history between accounts. Purchase prices, supplier invoices, landed costs, cost layers, COGS journals and margins stay with the account that recorded them. There is no way for us to hand one company's cost base to another, and we would not do it if there were.
Being able to sign in to Shopify proves you control the store today. It does not, on its own, entitle you to the figures somebody else recorded against it. That is why this is not a button you can press, and why we ask questions before acting.
If you bought the business
This comes up often enough to deserve its own answer. You now run the store, and the previous owner's Landara account holds their costing history.
The right outcome is almost always a fresh start, not a transfer. The previous owner disconnects the store, you install Landara and connect it to your own account, and your cost layers begin from what you paid.
That is not us being awkward. It is the accounting-correct answer:
- Your cost of goods sold should reflect your purchase prices, not the previous owner's.
- Their historical costs are part of their accounting records, which they usually have to retain.
- A ledger that starts at the sale date is far easier to explain to your accountant than one that silently changes hands partway through a year.
If there is stock on hand at the changeover, seed your opening cost layers with what you paid for that stock. See Seed cost layers.
If an agency or a contractor set it up
Very common, and usually straightforward. Email us with the details above and we will work with them to disconnect the store so you can connect it to your own account.
If they did real costing work you want to keep, ask them to export it before they disconnect. Every plan, including Free, can export to CSV at any time.
How long it takes
We reply to support email within one business day. Where we need to contact the other account holder, it depends on how quickly they come back to us. We will keep you posted rather than leave you waiting.
Meanwhile, you are not blocked
Installing Landara has already worked, so you can keep using the workspace you are in while this is sorted out. Nothing is lost, and no data is deleted while we look into it.
