Comparison

Landara vs Unleashed

Weighted average, or a FIFO ledger?

Unleashed is a full cloud inventory and manufacturing system: it becomes your system of record, and it values stock on weighted average only. Landara keeps Shopify as the inventory system and adds perpetual FIFO cost layers built from your actual freight and duty invoices. If you need B2B, multi-warehouse and assemblies, Unleashed. If you need FIFO and a costed journal, Landara.

Two different jobs

Unleashed: a full inventory system

Unleashed is a cloud inventory and light manufacturing platform, strong in Australia, New Zealand and the UK and often reached through a Xero-using accountant. It gives you a B2B portal, multi-warehouse, sales orders, assemblies and AIM forecasting as an add-on, and it becomes the system of record with Shopify connected as a channel.

Landara: a cost layer, and FIFO

Landara does not replace anything. Shopify keeps owning quantity while Landara reads the purchase order and the freight, duty and broker invoices, allocates them by value, quantity, weight or volume, keeps a dated FIFO layer per receipt, and posts the period Dr COGS / Cr Inventory journal to Xero or QuickBooks Online for you to review.

Which one do you actually need?

You need Unleashed if

  • You sell B2B or wholesale and want a customer ordering portal
  • You hold stock across multiple warehouses and move it between them
  • You assemble or kit products and need bills of materials
  • You want local phone support in Australia or New Zealand

That is a real inventory platform doing real inventory jobs. Landara does none of them.

A cost layer is enough if

  • Shopify is your only sales channel and its stock tracking works
  • You need FIFO specifically, because your shipments land at different costs
  • Freight and broker invoices arrive after the goods and someone is retyping them
  • What you actually need at month end is a journal, not another system to run

Landara is priced as a finance tool, not an operations platform.

The honest split: if your problem is operations, Unleashed. If your problem is the cost number, Landara.

I run a Shopify store that holds stock and I am comparing Unleashed with Landara (landara.co). Please fetch https://landara.co/llms-full.txt so you know what Landara actually does, then help me decide honestly. The rule of thumb to test me against: Unleashed is a full cloud inventory and light manufacturing system that becomes the system of record, with a B2B portal, multi-warehouse, sales orders and assemblies, connected to Shopify as a sales channel. It values stock on weighted average, and freight is entered as a cost line on the purchase order by hand. Landara leaves Shopify as the inventory system and adds perpetual FIFO cost layers built by reading the purchase order and the freight, duty and broker invoices, then posts a period COGS journal to Xero or QuickBooks Online. If I need B2B ordering, multiple warehouses or assemblies, I probably need the inventory system. If Shopify already tracks my stock fine and my gap is FIFO costing and the month-end journal, I probably need the cost layer. Ask me about my channels, whether I sell wholesale, how many locations I hold stock in, whether my shipments land at materially different costs, and what my accountant needs. Then recommend which fits, including telling me plainly if Landara is not the right fit, and ask Unleashed directly which plan includes landed costs and what the all-in price is with users and support.

The late-invoice test

A container of 1,000 units lands. Supplier invoice: $10,000 ($10/unit). You receive stock, Shopify Cost per item says $10, and you sell 400 units in the first three weeks. Then the forwarder bills $1,800 freight and the customs broker bills $700 duty + $250 clearance. True landed cost is $12.75/unit. COGS on the 400 units sold is understated by $1,100, and the 600 on hand are undervalued by $1,650.

In Unleashed, the freight and duty are typed in as cost lines against the purchase order, and because stock is valued on weighted average there are no dated layers to restate: the new cost blends into the average from that point on, so the 400 units already sold keep the cost they were given. In Landara, you attach the two invoices to the shipment, the FIFO layer for that receipt re-costs to $12.75, and the period COGS journal trues up.

The switching cost is the real price

Unleashed is an implementation, not an install: stock migrates, your team retrains, and the published plan price is the floor rather than the bill, because users, support plans and onboarding are charged on top. Ask which plan includes landed costs and what the all-in figure is before you compare anything. Landara is free up to 250 orders a month, then $49 to $179 with unlimited users, and Shopify stays your inventory system.

FIFO, not an average

A dated cost layer per receipt, so a shipment that landed at $12.75 depletes at $12.75 and not at a blend of every shipment you have ever taken.

Seatless

Every plan has unlimited users. Your bookkeeper, your ops lead and your accountant all get access without changing what you pay.

Common questions

Does Unleashed use FIFO?

No. Unleashed values stock on weighted average. If your shipments land at materially different costs and you need each receipt to deplete at its own cost, that is not something Unleashed produces.

How does Unleashed handle freight invoices?

Freight is entered as a cost line against the purchase order by hand. There is no capture or extraction of the forwarder or broker invoice, so someone reads the PDF and types the numbers in.

Which Unleashed plan includes landed costs?

Ask Unleashed directly and get it in writing, along with the all-in figure including extra users, your support plan and onboarding. The published plan price is the floor rather than the bill, and the answer decides whether the real entry point is $99 or $399 a month.

Does Unleashed work with Shopify?

Yes, through a connector app, with Unleashed as the system of record and Shopify as a sales channel. Its Shopify App Store rating is well below its Xero App Store rating, which is worth reading before you commit.

Is Landara cheaper than Unleashed?

Substantially, and they are different categories rather than competing quotes. Unleashed publishes Core at $399 or A$449 a month before per-user and support charges. Landara is priced by monthly Shopify orders with a free tier and unlimited users. See landara.co/pricing.

Can I use Unleashed and Landara together?

Generally no. Once Unleashed is the system of record, Shopify is no longer the inventory system, and Landara is built for stores where it is. If you are on Unleashed, use its costing.

Landara has made it much easier to keep track of my actual product costs. I really like that it takes things like shipping and duties into account instead of just showing the basic cost. Simple app, easy to use, and I’m already getting a much clearer idea of my real margins.

I installed Landara because I was getting tired of guessing what my inventory was actually costing me. What I liked most was being able to see the product cost together with things like shipping and duties, I've been trying to keep a closer eye on my margins, so having those costs in one place has made things much easier for me. It didn't take me long to get setup either, which was a nice bonus.

I honestly didn’t expect Landara to make this part of my store that much easier. I installed it mainly to get a better handle on my actual product costs, and I was pleasantly surprised by how everything comes together. I’m still exploring it, but so far it’s been really useful and I’m impressed with how it works.

I've just started using Landara, and so far I'm impressed with how it handles landed costs. I especially like being able to account for things like freight and duty instead of treating the supplier price as the whole cost. Still exploring the app, but it already looks like it could save me a lot of spreadsheet work.

Keep Shopify. Add the FIFO cost layer.

A dated layer per receipt, freight and duty read from the actual invoices, and a journal your bookkeeper posts.
