ConnectBooks: settlement-level reconciliation
ConnectBooks grew out of an Amazon-seller bookkeeping practice. Its strength is settlement-level reconciliation across Amazon, Walmart, eBay, TikTok Shop and Temu, per-SKU profit, 1099-K matching and FBA reimbursements. Landed cost is available on the Diamond plan through a QuickBooks workflow: clearing accounts, freight entered as service items, product dimensions for CBM allocation, and pairing of supplier bills with freight bills. An AI bill reader and the ConnectStock inventory module sit on the Platinum plan.
Landara: documents in, cost layers out
Landara is Shopify-native and starts from the documents. Upload or forward the PO and the forwarder’s and broker’s invoices; the AI extracts them, allocates across the PO by value, quantity, weight or volume, and creates FIFO cost layers. Every Shopify order is costed from those layers. Bills go to Xero or QuickBooks Online with the PDF attached, and the period COGS journal is ready for you to review and post.
Which one do you actually need?
You need ConnectBooks if

- • You sell on four or more marketplaces
- • You're on QuickBooks Desktop

The late-invoice test
A container of 1,000 units lands. Supplier invoice: $10,000 ($10/unit). You receive stock, Shopify Cost per item says $10, and you sell 400 units in the first three weeks. Then the forwarder bills $1,800 freight and the customs broker bills $700 duty + $250 clearance. True landed cost is $12.75/unit. COGS on the 400 units sold is understated by $1,100, and the 600 on hand are undervalued by $1,650.
In ConnectBooks, the freight bill is entered in QuickBooks as a service-item bill against a clearing account, paired with the supplier bill by container number, allocated by CBM, weight or evenly, and then Update Cost and Export pushes the revised cost back to QuickBooks. In Landara, you attach the invoice to the shipment and the FIFO layers, the period COGS journal and Shopify Cost per item all follow from it.

The switching cost is the real price
ConnectBooks' landed-cost setup is a QuickBooks configuration project: accounts, service items, product dimensions, and a pairing routine per container. That is reasonable for a multi-marketplace operation with a bookkeeper who lives in QuickBooks. For a Shopify-first importer it is the whole cost of the tool. Landara has no setup beyond connecting Shopify and Xero or QuickBooks Online, and it is free up to 250 orders a month, then $49 to $179, so the first container can be costed before you decide anything.
No workflow to build
No clearing accounts, no freight service items, no per-product CBM to maintain, and no pairing routine to remember each container. Forward the invoice and it is read, allocated and layered.
Your books get the output

Yes, on the Diamond plan and above, through a QuickBooks-based workflow that uses clearing accounts, freight entered as service items, product dimensions for CBM allocation, and supplier bills paired with freight bills by container.
Does ConnectBooks work with Shopify?
Yes. Shopify is one of its channels and it listed on the Shopify App Store in May 2026. Its origins and most of its features are Amazon-focused, so the depth is in marketplace settlement reconciliation rather than Shopify inventory costing.
Does ConnectBooks use FIFO?
The core product takes cost from QuickBooks, which is latest or average cost. FIFO is part of the ConnectStock inventory module, which sits on the Platinum plan.
Does ConnectBooks read freight invoices automatically?
The AI Bill Reader on the Platinum plan extracts vendor, totals and line items from bills and learns a supplier format after a few corrections. On lower plans, bills are entered in QuickBooks by hand.
Can I use ConnectBooks and Landara together?
Yes. ConnectBooks handles marketplace reconciliation across Amazon and the other channels; Landara handles inventory costing for the Shopify side and the COGS journal. They write to different parts of the ledger.
