Your real cost of goods sold,
costed on every Shopify order
Shopify tracks your quantities. Landara costs every order, FIFO or moving average, and hands your bookkeeper a ready-to-post journal. The lightweight way to replace Stocky, no inventory system required.
Free tier available. No credit card required.
Shopify never tracks your real COGS
Shopify shows revenue, not cost of goods sold. Stocky used to fill that gap, and Stocky has gone. And if you import your stock, the "Cost per item" you typed in ignores everything it took to land the goods.
The Stocky gap
Shopify has retired its own inventory-cost app. There is no built-in way left to track inventory cost or period COGS.
Freight costs
Sea freight, air freight, courier charges. Often $1-4/unit that never makes it into your unit cost.
Customs duty
Tariffs of 5-25% depending on product and origin. A hidden tax on every unit you import.
A static cost isn't COGS
Even a right cost typed once goes stale. Real COGS depletes dated cost layers as you sell: FIFO.
Your Shopify COGS vs. reality
At $35 sale price
Shopify shows
$23.00
66% margin
Actual profit
$19.37
55% margin
Your profit is 16% lower than Shopify shows.
Four steps to accurate COGS
Connect Shopify once. Landara costs every order FIFO and hands you a ready-to-post journal.
Connect Shopify
Landara reads your orders, fulfilments, and stock movements (never customer data). Costing starts the moment you connect.
Cost every order, FIFO
Each receipt becomes a dated cost layer; every sale depletes the oldest first. Choose FIFO or moving average.
Land freight & duty
Import your stock? Allocate freight and duty per SKU so real landed cost feeds each layer. Your COGS is only as good as your cost.
Post the journal
Get a clean period COGS figure and a Dr COGS / Cr Inventory journal. Landara posts it to Xero or QuickBooks for you when you choose, or hands you a CSV. You decide when it posts.
Finance-grade inventory truth
Not more inventory tracking. Landed cost in every unit, FIFO layers behind every sale, a ready-to-post journal every month, and books that match the warehouse.
Why accurate COGS matters
Real cost of goods sold means real margins, and books that tie out.
Trust your margins
Perpetual FIFO COGS means your profit reflects what each unit actually cost, not a stale number stapled to every sale.
Find money-losing products
Some products look profitable until freight and duty land on them. Spot the losers before they drain your cash flow.
Price promotions correctly
Running a 20% off sale? Make sure your discount doesn't push you below true landed cost.
Books that tie out
Every period, Landara posts a clean Dr COGS / Cr Inventory journal to Xero or QuickBooks for you on your command, or hands it over as a CSV. Nothing touches your ledger until you say so.
What only Landara does
Plenty of tools will show you a cost. These are the differences that decide whether the number survives contact with your accountant.
Cost layers per receipt, not one cost field
Shopify holds a single cost per variant and overwrites it whenever it changes, so last month's cost is simply gone. Landara keeps a dated layer for every receipt, which is what FIFO requires and what makes the figure auditable months later.
A journal your accountant posts, not a number you retype
A Dr COGS / Cr Inventory journal ready for Xero or QuickBooks, alongside revaluation, write-down and shrinkage journals. You review it and you post it. Landara never writes to your ledger unasked.
Landed cost inside the layer, not on a spreadsheet beside it
Freight, duty, insurance and clearance are allocated across the units on the shipment, so the layer that depletes on a sale already carries what it truly cost to land those goods.
Recoverable import tax stays recoverable, never capitalised
Import GST and VAT are reclaimable, so they never inflate inventory value, while customs duty correctly does. Tools that treat every border charge alike overstate landed cost and leave the tax off your BAS.
Two costing bases, not one opinion
Cost at sale and cost at fulfilment, switchable whenever you need. They are two views of the same COGS and are never summed, so you can match whichever basis your accountant works from.
A ledger with no delete button, not an editable history
A correction is a reversing movement, never a deletion, so the audit trail behind a period you have already posted stays intact. That is the difference between a record and a working file.
Shopify keeps owning quantity, so there is no migration
Landara never maintains a competing stock-on-hand number and never asks you to move inventory into another system. Connect it, and it costs the movements Shopify already reports.
Built for the cost side only, and honest about it
Landara does not forecast demand or run your reorder workflow, and will tell you so. It does the one job with an accounting deadline behind it, which is why it sits beside whatever you pick for planning.
Direct Shopify integration
Connect your Shopify store once and apply your costs. Landara reads your orders and fulfilments, matches each sale against dated FIFO layers, and keeps a running COGS figure it can post to your accounting for you any period.
- Reads orders & fulfilments by SKU
- Perpetual FIFO or moving-average costing
- Ready-to-post journal each period

Does Shopify track cost of goods sold?
No. Shopify tracks quantity and has a single Cost per item field, which is a current snapshot rather than a history. Reports built on it reprice historical sales at today's cost. Real COGS needs a dated cost layer per receipt, which is what Landara maintains against your orders.
Is Landara a replacement for Stocky?
For the cost side, yes. Shopify has retired Stocky and directs former users to manage inventory in the Shopify admin and Shopify POS. Landara replaces the parts that matter for your numbers: perpetual FIFO COGS, stocktakes with barcode scanning, landed cost per unit, and a ready-to-post journal. Shopify keeps tracking quantity; Landara does not replace how your store manages stock.
Do I have to stop using Shopify inventory tracking?
No. Shopify stays the source of truth for quantity. Landara reads orders, fulfilments and stock movements (never customer data) and attaches cost to them. Nothing about how you run your store changes.
How does the COGS journal get into Xero or QuickBooks?
Each period Landara produces a Dr COGS / Cr Inventory journal from the FIFO ledger. You review it, then Landara posts it to Xero or QuickBooks on your command, or hands you a CSV. Nothing touches your ledger until you say so.
