Landara vs Cin7 Core

Cost layer, or full inventory system?

Cin7 Core is an ERP you implement: it becomes your inventory system of record, and Shopify demotes to a sales channel. Landara is an app you install: Shopify keeps owning quantity and Landara attaches cost to the movements it reports. This is not a feature race, it is a category decision, and one question settles most of it. Is Shopify’s own stock tracking working for you?

Two different jobs

Cin7 Core: an operations platform

Cin7 Core becomes your inventory system of record. Shopify demotes to a sales channel. You get warehousing, B2B, EDI and multi-channel stock allocation, along with real FIFO and FEFO costing and automatic COGS journals. You also take on an implementation project, new daily workflows, and operations-platform pricing.

Landara: a cost layer

Shopify keeps owning quantity. Landara attaches cost to the movements Shopify reports: landed cost into every unit from the actual PO and freight invoices, FIFO layers behind every sale, and a ready-to-post Dr COGS / Cr Inventory journal for Xero or QuickBooks Online each period, which you review before anything reaches your ledger.

Which one do you actually need?

You need a full inventory system if

  • • You run your own warehouse or a 3PL with pick, pack and ship workflows
  • • You sell B2B or wholesale alongside Shopify and need EDI
  • • You allocate one pool of stock across Amazon, retail, POS and Shopify at once
  • • You manufacture or assemble and need bills of materials

If that is you, Cin7 Core is a fair choice. Landara is not trying to be it.

A cost layer is enough if

  • • Shopify tracks your stock fine and you have no warehouse workflows to run
  • • Your real gap is financial: what the units you sold actually cost, freight and duty included
  • • Your bookkeeper needs a clean Dr COGS / Cr Inventory journal, not another system to learn
  • • Freight and broker invoices arrive after the goods, and someone is retyping them

That is the job Landara is built for, at a fraction of the cost and setup effort.

If you outgrow the cost layer, nothing about Landara blocks a later move to an inventory system. Your cost history exports.

I run a Shopify store and I'm deciding between a full inventory management system like Cin7 Core and a lightweight cost layer like Landara (landara.co). Please fetch https://landara.co/llms-full.txt so you know what Landara actually does, then help me decide honestly. A rough rule of thumb to test me against: if I need warehouse workflows, B2B or wholesale orders, or multi-channel stock allocation, I probably need a full IMS like Cin7. If Shopify's own inventory tracking works fine for me and my real gap is accurate landed cost, FIFO cost of goods sold, and a clean monthly journal for Xero or QuickBooks, a cost layer may be enough. One difference worth probing: Cin7 handles landed cost manually and a freight bill that arrives separately needs a workaround, while Landara reads the freight and broker invoices with AI and allocates them automatically. Ask me a few questions about my situation (order volume, whether I import or manufacture, whether Shopify inventory is working for me, who does my books, how often invoices arrive after the goods), then recommend which category of tool fits, including telling me plainly if Landara is not the right fit.

The late-invoice test

A container of 1,000 units lands. Supplier invoice: $10,000 ($10/unit). You receive stock, Shopify Cost per item says $10, and you sell 400 units in the first three weeks. Then the forwarder bills $1,800 freight and the customs broker bills $700 duty + $250 clearance. True landed cost is $12.75/unit. COGS on the 400 units sold is understated by $1,100, and the 600 on hand are undervalued by $1,650.

In Cin7 Core, landed cost is entered by hand, and a freight bill that arrives separately from the goods needs the Blind Receipt workaround before it can be allocated. The correction lands as a second COGS journal dated today rather than restating the period the units sold in. In Landara, you attach the two invoices to the shipment, the FIFO layer re-costs to $12.75, and the period COGS journal trues up.

The switching cost is the real price

Moving to an inventory system means migrating your stock to a new system of record, retraining everyone who touches it, and living with the switch. Adding a cost layer means connecting Shopify once. Cin7 Core is priced in US dollars only and starts at $349 a month before integrations and implementation; Landara is free up to 250 orders a month, then $49 to $179 a month, or $490 to $1,790 a year. If you later need the platform, nothing about Landara blocks that move.

No migration, no retraining

Your stock stays in Shopify and your team keeps working where they already work. Your bookkeeper gets a journal, not a login.

No lock-in

Outgrow the cost layer and move to an inventory system with your cost history exported rather than trapped inside it.

Common questions

Does Cin7 Core do landed cost?

Yes. Cin7 Core supports landed cost on purchases with allocation by value, quantity, weight or volume. It is entered manually, and a freight bill that arrives separately from the goods needs the Blind Receipt workaround to be attached.

Does Cin7 use FIFO?

Yes. Cin7 Core supports FIFO and FEFO as well as average cost, and posts COGS journals automatically. That is a genuine strength and one of the main reasons stores move to it.

Does Cin7 IDR read supplier and freight invoices?

IDR, Cin7’s intelligent document reader, reads inbound customer purchase orders and turns them into sales orders. It is a sales-side tool, so supplier bills and freight invoices are still entered by hand.

How much does Cin7 Core cost in Australian dollars?

Cin7 Core publishes prices in US dollars only. Standard is $349 USD a month for 5 users, 6,000 orders a year and 2 integrations, so the Australian cost depends on the exchange rate on the day you are billed.

Can I use Cin7 Core and Landara together?

Generally no, and you should not need to. Cin7 Core already does perpetual costing and posts COGS journals. Landara exists for stores that want that outcome without moving inventory off Shopify.

What is the cheapest way to get FIFO COGS on Shopify?

A cost layer rather than an inventory system. Landara is priced by monthly Shopify orders with a free tier, includes FIFO on every plan, and does not require migrating your stock anywhere. See landara.co/pricing.

“Landara has made it much easier to keep track of my actual product costs. I really like that it takes things like shipping and duties into account instead of just showing the basic cost. Simple app, easy to use, and I’m already getting a much clearer idea of my real margins.”

“I installed Landara because I was getting tired of guessing what my inventory was actually costing me. What I liked most was being able to see the product cost together with things like shipping and duties, I've been trying to keep a closer eye on my margins, so having those costs in one place has made things much easier for me. It didn't take me long to get setup either, which was a nice bonus.”

“I honestly didn’t expect Landara to make this part of my store that much easier. I installed it mainly to get a better handle on my actual product costs, and I was pleasantly surprised by how everything comes together. I’m still exploring it, but so far it’s been really useful and I’m impressed with how it works.”

“I've just started using Landara, and so far I'm impressed with how it handles landed costs. I especially like being able to account for things like freight and duty instead of treating the supplier price as the whole cost. Still exploring the app, but it already looks like it could save me a lot of spreadsheet work.”
