Why running COGS

Not a sync tool. Not a full inventory system.

Shopify has retired Stocky, and native reports only staple your supplier price to each sale. Landara sits in the gap: a real cost engine that's accurate because it's fed by your landed costs, without the weight of an IMS.

Accounting-sync apps

e.g. A2X, Bookkeep

  • Staple one static cost to each sale
  • No perpetual FIFO
  • Cost is only the supplier invoice

Landara COGS

The gap nobody fills

  • True perpetual FIFO / average
  • Costs fed by real landed cost
  • No inventory system to run

Full IMS

e.g. Cin7, Katana

  • Heavy migration & re-platforming
  • Expensive, more than most need
  • COGS is one buried feature

True perpetual FIFO, not “just add a cost”

Every receipt becomes a dated cost layer; each sale depletes the oldest layer first. Your COGS moves with your actual costs, shipment to shipment, not a single static number stapled to the sale.

Landed-cost-accurate

Your COGS is only as good as your cost. Landara already allocates freight, duty and clearance to every SKU. Those true landed costs feed your cost layers, so your COGS reflects what goods actually cost to land.

Not an inventory system

Shopify keeps tracking your stock quantities. Landara attaches the cost layer on top and costs each movement. No migration, no re-platforming, no learning a full IMS, just the lightweight fix for the Stocky gap.

Bookkeeper-ready journals, posted on your command

Landara produces a clean period COGS figure and the journal (Dr COGS / Cr Inventory), then posts it to Xero or QuickBooks for you when you choose, or hands you a CSV. It's never a black box: nothing hits your ledger until you say so.

Flat pricing: never per-order

COGS is bookkeeping plumbing; it shouldn't cost more the harder you sell. Tiers are flat monthly, banded by order volume: no meter that spikes your bill in your busiest month.

FIFO or average, both bases

Run FIFO for precision or moving-average for simplicity. Landara tracks both sale and fulfilment bases in parallel, so you can reconcile and give your accountant the basis they want.

What counts toward your limits?

Two simple meters: shipments costed and, on COGS tiers, monthly orders costed.

One shipment = one unit

  • • 1 PO + 1 freight invoice → 1 shipment
  • • 1 PO + 3 freight invoices → 1 shipment
  • • 1 PO with embedded shipping costs → 1 shipment
  • • Re-reading a document, and re-running the numbers, are both free

An order = one Shopify sale costed

  • • Each Shopify order counts once, however many items
  • • Fulfilments & refunds on an order don't add to the count
  • • Only COGS tiers meter orders, and they reset monthly
  • • Soft cap: over the limit, we flag it and keep costing

Landara has made it much easier to keep track of my actual product costs. I really like that it takes things like shipping and duties into account instead of just showing the basic cost. Simple app, easy to use, and I’m already getting a much clearer idea of my real margins.

I installed Landara because I was getting tired of guessing what my inventory was actually costing me. What I liked most was being able to see the product cost together with things like shipping and duties, I've been trying to keep a closer eye on my margins, so having those costs in one place has made things much easier for me. It didn't take me long to get setup either, which was a nice bonus.

I honestly didn’t expect Landara to make this part of my store that much easier. I installed it mainly to get a better handle on my actual product costs, and I was pleasantly surprised by how everything comes together. I’m still exploring it, but so far it’s been really useful and I’m impressed with how it works.

I've just started using Landara, and so far I'm impressed with how it handles landed costs. I especially like being able to account for things like freight and duty instead of treating the supplier price as the whole cost. Still exploring the app, but it already looks like it could save me a lot of spreadsheet work.
