Connect Shopify
Connect your Shopify store so Landara can cost your orders, and understand the permissions it asks for.
Updated 18 August 2026
Connecting Shopify lets Landara read your orders, fulfilments, inventory, and locations so it can attach a FIFO cost to every movement. Landara never changes your Shopify stock quantities. Shopify owns quantity; we only attach cost. (The one exception is an optional, opt-in on-hand push when you record a genuine receipt.)
Installing connects your store
Installing Landara from the Shopify App Store is what connects your store, so there is no separate connection step afterwards and Landara never asks you to type your store address. There are two ways in, and they end in the same place.
If you already have a Landara account
Start from inside Landara, so your store attaches to the workspace you are already using.
- Go to Settings, then Connections, and click Connect Shopify store. If you have just signed up, the last step of setup offers the same button.
- We send you to the Landara listing on the Shopify App Store. Click Install and approve the permissions Shopify shows you.
- Pick a plan. You can start on Free with no time limit, and every paid plan starts with a 30-day free trial. Shopify handles the billing.
- You come straight back to Landara with your store connected to the same workspace.
Finish in the same browser you started in. That is how Landara knows which workspace to connect the store to. If you install from a different browser or device, we fall back to matching your store's contact email, and if that address differs from your Landara login you will end up with a second account.
If you are starting from Shopify
- In your Shopify admin, go to Apps and search for Landara. You can also install from the Shopify App Store.
- Click Install, then review the permissions Shopify shows you and approve them.
- Pick a plan. Shopify handles the billing.
- You'll land in Landara with your store already connected, and an account created for you.
Installed from Shopify and then realised you already had a Landara account under a different email? Your dashboard offers to move the store across. Choose I already have a Landara account, sign in, and confirm. It works while the new workspace is still empty; if you have already started loading data into it, email support@landara.co and we will merge it by hand.
Once you're in, go straight to Seed cost layers so Landara knows what stock you already hold.
Who owns the workspace
The workspace owner is the person who can close the books, add and remove team members, and who we contact about billing and terms. Which account ends up as owner depends on which way you came in.
| How you connected | Who owns the workspace |
|---|---|
| You had a Landara account and connected the store from inside it | The account you signed up with. Your store's Shopify contact email gets no Landara account and no access to your data, even when it is a different address. |
| You installed from the Shopify App Store first | The account Landara creates for you, using your store's Shopify contact email. |
That second row is worth a look before you invite anyone. If your store's contact email is a shared inbox, or belongs to your bookkeeper or agency, then that address owns the workspace. Connecting from inside Landara instead, using the account you want to keep, avoids it entirely.
Everyone else you invite joins as a member. Members can do the day to day work, and the owner keeps the decisions that are hard to undo.
Handing the workspace to someone else
Ownership can move. This matters when the person who installed the app is not the person who signs off on the subscription: warehouse staff can set Landara up, and the business owner can take it over before anything is paid for.
- Ask the person to accept your team invitation first. You can only hand the workspace to someone who is already a member.
- Go to Settings, then Team, find them in the list and click Make owner.
- Confirm. They become the owner straight away, and you stay on the team as a member.
Only the current owner can do this, and only the new owner can hand it back, so check the name before you confirm. If nobody is left who can, email support@landara.co.
What permissions Landara asks for, and why
| Permission | Why Landara needs it |
|---|---|
| Read orders & fulfilments | To cost each sale, fulfilment and restocking refund (COGS) |
| Read inventory & locations | To value on-hand stock and keep cost layers per location |
| Write inventory | Only for the optional on-hand push when you record a receipt |
| Read & write products | To match your SKUs and write landed unit costs back |
| Read Shopify Payments account & payouts | To match a COGS report to a payout window |
| Read inventory transfers | To move cost with stock between locations automatically |
From an order, Landara takes only the line items, quantities, inventory location, and the identifiers and dates it needs to cost the movement. It never reads customer names, email addresses, phone numbers or shipping addresses. See the privacy policy for the full detail.
If we add a capability that needs a new permission, Shopify will ask you to re-approve. Until you do, the new feature stays off. Nothing else changes.
What Landara writes back to Shopify
Landara writes exactly one thing: the cost per item on a product, and only when you ask it to from a shipment.
That field holds your most recent purchase price, not an average. It is what you price from: work your RRP off the cost of the stock you are buying now, not off what you paid two shipments ago.
That choice is why a few things behave the way they do:
- Only your latest shipment can push cost. Once a newer shipment is calculated, older ones close and their sync switches off. An older shipment's cost is not merely out of date, it is the wrong answer to what that field means, and pushing it would quietly reprice your catalogue backwards.
- Adjustments never reach Shopify. Correcting the cost of a layer, writing stock down, recording shrinkage or committing a stocktake all leave the Shopify cost alone. That layer may be several receipts back; it is not what you are buying at today.
- Landara does not mind if you change the cost in Shopify yourself. Nothing is overwritten until your next shipment, and then you choose whether to sync.
Average cost and margin live in Landara instead, because they are questions Shopify's single cost field cannot answer:
| Question | Where to look |
|---|---|
| What is my stock worth right now? | Inventory Valuation, at weighted-average FIFO cost |
| What does a unit of this SKU average? | Availability, per SKU and per location |
| What did the units I actually sold cost? | The COGS report, from the layers they came out of |
Older stock bought cheaper will show a wider margin against today's RRP, and it genuinely earned one. The COGS report is where that shows up honestly, sale by sale.
Verify it worked
Open Dashboard → COGS. If the connection is live, you'll see your store listed and Landara will begin ingesting new orders within a few seconds of them happening in Shopify.
Newly connected stores only ingest orders going forward. To account for stock you already hold, seed your starting position with cost layers. Start with "Sync opening stock".
