What currency Landara uses
Landara shows every cost in your organisation's native currency. What that setting does, where it comes from, and what changing it does to costs you have already entered.
Updated 2 September 2026
Landara reports in one currency: your organisation's native currency. Every cost layer, every valuation, every COGS figure and every journal is expressed in it, so any two numbers in the app can be compared without checking which currency each one is in.
Native currency is an organisation setting, not a personal one. Everyone on your team sees the same currency.
Where the setting comes from
When you install from the Shopify App Store, Landara reads your store's own currency and uses it. Most merchants never see the question, because the store they already run is a better answer than anything we could guess.
If your store's currency is one Landara does not support, or you signed up directly rather than through Shopify, the first-run wizard asks. You can change it later in Settings → Preferences.
What it does to a cost
Landara stamps the native currency onto each cost layer at the moment the layer is created, whether it came from syncing opening stock, from a supplier invoice, or from a manual entry.
Costs on a foreign-currency supplier document are converted first, at the exchange rate on the document or on its shipment, and the converted figure is what gets stored. See Track your import spend for how those rates are applied.
⚠️ Changing it later does not convert what you already have
This is the one thing worth knowing before you change the setting.
Changing your native currency affects new cost layers only. Layers already in Landara keep the currency they were stamped with, and their amounts are not converted, because Landara does not store an exchange rate against a cost layer that was already in your home currency.
So if you switch from AUD to USD after entering costs, you can end up with:
| Where you look | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Cost layers | The currency each layer was stamped with when it was created, so older layers still say AUD |
| Stock on hand, Valuation, COGS report | Your current native currency, so they say USD |
The numbers themselves have not moved. Only the labels disagree, and they will keep disagreeing until the older layers are replaced.
Set your currency before you seed cost layers, and leave it alone afterwards. If you have already changed it and want the old layers to match, delete them and seed them again so they are stamped fresh. That is safe for opening stock synced from Shopify. If the layers came from supplier invoices you have entered by hand, talk to us first at support@landara.co rather than deleting work.
What Landara does not do
Landara reports in one currency. It does not hold a multi-currency ledger, produce a valuation in more than one currency at a time, or track realised foreign exchange gains and losses. If you sell from several stores in different currencies, connect each store to its own Landara organisation.
